Hughes still happy with Rovers life

Blackburn chief Mark Hughes insists he will not be heading to Newcastle this weekend with a point to prove.
Hughes was rumoured to be a leading contender to become Newcastle boss in January after Sam Allardyce was sacked. Kevin Keegan ultimately returned for a second stint at St James' Park and Hughes has again stressed his happiness at Blackburn. "It's all in the past now," Hughes told The Sun. "It was always speculation. I took a step back and tried to keep my distance and got criticised for that. "But I always said I was happy at Blackburn and that's still the case, so it's not something I worry about day-in, day-out. "I certainly don't feel like I'm going up there with anything to prove to anyone. We just see it as a chance to boost our European ambitions." Rovers are in the mix for European football next season, but Hughes accepts it will be a difficult challenge over the coming weeks. He added: "Two years ago, when we finished sixth, we had 43 points at this stage. Now we have 42, but it will be more difficult this year. "We look at the fixtures coming up and we see some winnable games. We've got 11 to come and we're going to have to win six or seven of them. "We have to view Newcastle as a winnable game. But it's a big challenge going up there."

4-1..At last..My personal favourite player scored!!

Blackburn winger Morten Gamst Pedersen has voiced his relief after ending his Premier League goal drought in Sunday's win over Bolton.

Pedersen netted in the 90th minute of Rovers' 4-1 victory over the Trotters for his first league goal since last February.

The Norway international had made a name for himself as a goalscoring midfielder until his barren run - and he hopes his latest effort will set him up for the rest of the season.

"It was a good feeling because it's been a while since I last scored in the league," Pedersen told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"I've scored a couple in the cups, and a few for my national team, but in the league it has been a while, and it's always good to score, especially when we managed to put in a good performance as a team as well.

"I've hit almost everything; the crossbar; the post; people.

"But I hit the target and it's a good feeling. Hopefully, I can get a few more now."

Manager Mark Hughes was also delighted for Pedersen after keeping faith with him all season, and is confident the 26-year-old will now go from strength to strength.

"It was an important goal for Morten," said Hughes. "Obviously, confidence wise, he has been a little bit low but he took his goal really well, and I thought in the first half he caused them a real problem with his power in the air, and his ability to produce balls from wide areas.

"So it was a good performance by him, and I'm sure he will benefit from that."

Beware the Bolton threat

ROVERS boss Mark Hughes is well aware of the threat that local rivals and European heroes Bolton pose ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash at Ewood Park.

Rovers turned out 2-1 winners in the reverse fixture at the Reebok Stadium a few weeks ago, but Hughes believes Bolton will provide difficult opposition.

"They have a certain style of play that is well known and well documented," said Hughes. "It hasn't changed a great deal since Gary has come because he has acknowledged the qualities of the players and has recognised they are well-tuned with that system.

"In fairness it has been difficult for him because he has lost one of his main assets in Nicolas Anelka, but he has been allowed to spend the money to bring in good Premier League players and they look strong.

"They are a difficult side, they are always a difficult side and in these derbies, for whatever reason, it always seems to be the away side that does well.
