Richard Morales, 33, has attracted interest from Blackburn Rovers, and according to reports the Premier League club and Nacional of Montevideo could begin negotiations by early next week.
The former Uruguayan international, who stands at 1.98 metres tall, had agreed to join Brazilian giants Flamengo earlier in the month, but decided to pull out of the deal after players from the club's squad were violently attacked by fans because of their poor run of results.
At the beginning of the week Morales returned to training with Nacional, even though he had previously told the club that he had no interest of returning, because of the way he had been treated by their directors after his actions during a derby loss to city rivals Penarol last season.
Then on Friday morning it was reported that Blackburn Rovers officials attended a Nacional training session at Los Cespedes, in the outskirts of Montevideo, and approached the player with the intention to sign him for two seasons. Morales affirmed that he would be interested in a move to the Premiership at this stage of his career.
The intention of Blackburn Rovers is to use Morales as a permanent back-up for Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz while he is out on international duty with his national team
